The Design Museum’s in-house Designers in Residence programme, along with the rest of the world, felt a drastic change of pace when hit with the Covid-19 pandemic. Opting to offer the residency to digitally-led, experiential, designers, they sought to change the programme to suit a virtual experience over the previous year's physical exhibition.

Following the theme of Care we developed an identity and virtual exhibition that channeled the tactility of a physical showcase; taking advantage of the digital sphere by uniquely exhibiting the work of each creative in a way unique to their output, and in doing so asking how we can make a digital exhibition feel physical.

The identity was led by a moving logomark that interacted with the content it contextualised, becoming somewhat of a texture in the process. Reminiscent of dot matrix printing the type’s construction referenced both the material sensibilities of the project as well as the common occurrence of this style of printing within healthcare practices. The sporadic dots of the mark would wildly disperse before returning back together, similarly translating the notion of coming together and, most importantly, caring for one another.

Taking the physicality of an exhibition one step further, the programme offered a free catalogue for its virtual guests, taking the form of an enlarged text-book style publication, cementing the final opposition to the conventions of Covid-style exhibitions.
